Q
Is your school furnishing students with internship?
A
The College of Business encourages students to participate in internships directly related to their field of study. The Business has its own employment services center which help student locate internships. They also sponsor "Career Days" which invites employers to come on campus to recruit employees. These are the two ways that the university helps students to find internships. (2004-10-22 14:31)

UTA uses mulitple criteria to make an admissions decision. We do require submission of GPA, but a less than favorable GPA alone would not cause a denial of admission. I feel confused. Does MBA program inclede only business, or it inlcude other areas like education, art, and so on?
A
While MBA programs primarily focus on classic business areas, i.e. finance, economics, marketing, etc...there are some dual degree programs which allow for study in other departments coupled with business areas studies. These programs are becoming very popular. At UTA we offer Masters level dual degree programs in Business coupled with Engineering, Architecture, Nursing, Education and Urban Affairs. Dual degree programs allow students specific area study with a business focus. (2004-10-22 14:54)

Does most of finance in MBA and MS need GMAT?

MBA schools require GMAT, not GRE. I think, Northwestern University, New York University, and some other schools I cannot remember. You may find U.S.News for a correct answer. (2004-10-22 15:06)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
If I didnt take viewable courses at college, does it mean that it will take me more time to complete MBA?

If you do not have an educational background in Business, you will probably be required to take "deficiency courses". This usually means one extra semester of beginning level courses in business. (2004-10-22 15:08)

Host: (Arthur Wah)
Q
How to choose the suitable school? I just roughly know what MBA program will teach but dont really understand if I really like the courses in MBA.

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
If I havent decided whether to have further studies e.g. PH.D or not, which program will you recommend MS or MBA?
A
It's hard to say which degree is better if you have not decided about the Ph.D. The MBA provides a broader study and may be recognized in the business community more readily. However, the MS can provide more detailed study in a specific area. (2004-10-22 15:14)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
Is the living fare in Texas less than other states?
A
The cost of living is lower in Texas than many states. Having lived in New York previously, I have experienced that for myself. UTA estimates the cost of living for one year at about 11,000 US$, but I have seen many students live on much less. (2004-10-22 15:15)

Host: (Jay Horn)

Q
What is the ratio that teachers to students?
A
It all depends. Top schools generally have a teacher-student ratio under 10 to 1 (10 students to 1 teacher). The ratio varies from school to school. Just like what I just say, the better schools the lower ratio. (2004-10-22 15:19)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
If I just get the MBA score of 500, do I still have chance to enter a good MBA school?

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
How long will the application for MBA probably take?
A
Once the application packet is complete--GMAT, TOEFL, SOP, etc..it usually takes about 3 weeks to come to a decision. (2004-10-22 15:25)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
Could you describe the outstanding programs of your school of MBA in finance and in Marketing?
A
While both our Finance and Marketing programs are well recognized, our Masters of Marketing Research has received a lot attention lately. This program has a required internship and a very strong faculty. (2004-10-22 15:26)

Host: (Moon Chen)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
What is the value of MBA?? there are a lot of people say that MBA degree is valuable?
A
A good MBA program should provide you with a broad business knowledge base that will prepare you to work, lead and management in any area of business. Studying at the Masters level provides a framework for knowledge required to be successful in business. (2004-10-22 15:29)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
How to overcome the language problems if I never take any business related courses in college?
A
Well, I think, language problems and business experiences are two different things. They are not necessarily go hand in hand. You may have good language ability while you may not have business experiences. Or if you have business experiences, you may not necessarily have good language ability. (2004-10-22 15:31)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
How do I know the outstanding areas of each MBA program?
A
You have to read reference books, such as Peterson's publications, U.S. News and some other publications. Or you go on some websites, such as uscampus.com, usnews.com..etc. (2004-10-22 15:35)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
Which schools student are popular in Wall Street?
A
I wouldn't worry about what schools are the "most popular" on Wall Street. I would go the best school that you can gain admission to and can pay for. That is the most realistic approach. (2004-10-22 15:37)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
I would like to ask about the work experience..I just finished my MS degree and start working now. Is it wise to apply for the MBA program in 2006? Or shall I work longer to get the eligibility?
A
I guess it depends on the requirements of the school that you want to attend. For schools that require work experience, you will need to stick with your employment for a couple of years. Many MBA schools do not require experience, however, it is preferred. (2004-10-22 15:40)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
Everyone says that to get a MBA degree will be more competitive than to get a MS degree, is that true?
A
Yes, it is true. MBA requires more 60 credits to complete while MS requires only half of the credits approximately. (2004-10-22 15:41)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
What is the min. GMAT score shold get in order to enter a MBA school?
A
Well, this is a good question. As far as I know, there are some schools requiring as low as GMAT score of 470. But only a few schools do. (2004-10-22 15:44)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
After top100, is the ranking of MBA still very important to business?
A
While some Fortune 500 companies and Wall Street offices may consider ranking of MBA program important, many employers will not consider the ranking of your school for employment. Many employers will focus on your demonstrated knowledge, your experience and your ability to work with people effectively. (2004-10-22 15:46)

Host: (Arthur Wah)
Q
If I didn't have related business backgournd, should I have better studied it by myself before entering MBA school?
A
Any business needs management. MBA is to take you to that area to manage and to be the leader. You should enter to MBA as early as you are ready but to get ready for the tough two tear of school time. Student from any background is the right candidate for MBA. (2004-10-22 15:47)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
I would like to ask about the work experience..I just finished my MS degree and start working now. Is it wise to apply for the MBA program in 2006? Or shall I work longer to get the eligibility?
A
It's better to have 2 years of work experience at least. For example, University of California at Berkeley requires a minimum work experience of 2 years. If you don't have 2 years of work experience, you cannot apply to UC Berkeley. Even if some schools don't require work experience, you will get more marks if you have work experience. (2004-10-22 15:49)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
Is it hard for the non-business background people to study MBA? What kind of difficulty will they face when studying MBA?
A
Many people attending MBA programs come from backgrounds other than business. In the US, it is common to change your field of study. A varied background may actually be a benefit to you in the long run, as you will have a broader range of experience than someone who has only studied business. That said, you may have to take a semester or two of "deficiency courses" to provide you with basic business knowledge, but it should not hinder your from being admitted to an MBA program. (2004-10-22 15:54)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
Where can I find the latest ranking of MBA school and the required score?
A
You can find the latest ranking of MBA schools from the U.S.News or Business Week. Regarding the scores required, you may see the Peterson's book on MBA schools. (2004-10-22 15:54)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
If I'm interested in investment and marketing, would you recommand some schools which are good at these two fields?
A
cannot recommend any school to you if I don't know anything about your personal qualifications, such as your GPA, TOEFL and GMAT scores along with some other related requirements. I am sorry to give you such an unsatisfied answer. (2004-10-22 15:57)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
What is pre-MBA program? who is the target? and what kind of decipline does it provide?
A
As I understand it, Pre-MBA programs are specilized programs for students without a business background. Some schools provide a specialized course of study specifically for those students. (2004-10-22 15:59)

Host: (Arthur Wah)
Q
如果GMAT OR TOEFL的分數未到學校標準,且未通過該校英文沒通過測驗的話,被要求要補修的語言課程算在畢業學分裡咩?
A
English program is only to prepare you for studying MBA or MS programs. it will not count as part of business program. (2004-10-21 16:03)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
In geneal, how much time do i spend in MBA programs?
A
For students with an undergraduate degree in business the course usually last about 1.5 years. For those without a business degree will need 2 years. (2004-10-22 16:01)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
I would like to ask further more about work experience..I started working in the autumn of 2004 and I will apply the 2006 MBA program in the summer of 2005. It means I will have work experience of one year when I apply the course. However, I will have the work experience of two year before I enter the school. What does "two-yearwork experience" mean? Does it mean the number of years one works when he/she apply the course or when he/she enter the school?
A
I think that most Admissions offices would only consider the work experience at the time of application, since they cannot verify what will happen between application and attending. (2004-10-22 16:05)

Host: (Arthur Wah)
Q
未通過該校英文測驗的話,大概會要求補修多少語言課程的學分?
A
First, you need to have a TOEFL score. If it is lower then what we are looking for, like between 220-249, we will place to English prgram. Every one is different. Admission office will help you to enter the right program. Please remenber, we are not a language school. we are only interesting to help you to get into MBA program ASAP. (2004-10-22 16:07)

Host: (Arthur Wah)
Q
How much is the annual living expense in Illinois?
A
We are located in the heart of city. The living cost is about $800-900/Month. Our school will give every full time student a U pass that you do not need to pay any public transportation at any time. We also have IIT school bus trans between all campuses. Transportation is free to IIT student. (2004-10-22 14:09)

Host: (Moon Chen)
Q
How much is the the tuition of the English program that strengthen the students' ability?
A
It all depends. Tuition and fees vary from school to school in different regions. There are different English programs, from 2-week to 16-week programs. If you study at colleges or universities, English classes go with the school system. (2004-10-22 16:12)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
Are MBA programs in America similar to those in Taiwan? That is,there are some required courses and some selective ones. We just need to finish the credit points and we can graduate. Is this correct?
A
I think basically that is true. At UTA we two options for MBAs-thesis and non-thesis. Both options have a core of required courses with either research and thesis for the thesis option or additional elective coursework for the non-thesis option. (2004-10-22 16:15)

Host: (Jay Horn)
Q
請問 Information Management 是屬於MBA的課嘛?
A
Information Systems is within the college of business. At UTA we have both an MBA in Info Systems and an MS in Info systems. Info Systems includes the study of applicable computer hardware, software, and database technology; the design of information systems; and management and control of info technologies. (2004-10-22 16:24)
