Charlotte Yde
Born 1953, Copenhagen, Denmark
Maintains a studio in Copenhagen, Denmark
Charlotte Yde saw her first quilt at age sixteen
while visiting relatives in Connecticut. After
studying to be an embroidery teacher at the Danish
Handcraft Guild's Teachers College, she taught
herself to quilt, using a contemporary style
inspired by Fiberart Magazine and the
catalogues of the Quilt National.
Personalities-Feeling Blue is from her
Personalities and Kindred Spirits series. The
four pieces of the quilt, each with its own
ornamentation, express the idea that human beings
have basically the same shape but are very different
inside. |

"If you only
seek your inspiration from within your own field,
there is a danger that the expressions will become
'inbred' or tame and repetitive. I get most of
my inspiration from outside the quilt world - the
real world, history, and the rest of the arts and
crafts world." |
