“Six
Continents of Quilts: The Museum of Art and Design
Collection” is the first major undertaking of an
international exhibit of cutting-edge quilts by
artists from around the world. This exhibit,
organized by the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) in
New York, examines new developments in contemporary
quilting on six continents, and showcases the range
of content, technique, cultural influence and
tradition that have infused the art quilt today.
The MAD, established in 1956, is a prominent art
museum in the United
States specializing in contemporary craft and
decorative arts. This collection of its recent
acquisitions of contemporary quilts presents the
unifying spirit that artists bring to enrich our
world.
The American
Institute in Taiwan Public Affairs Section (AIT/PAS)
is very pleased to coordinate the presentation of
this marvelous exhibit from the MAD to the Kaohsiung
Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Art and
the National Museum of History on Taiwan. We would
especially like to acknowledge the efforts that the
three museums have jointly put together in
the last two years
to bring this exhibit to Taiwan. We hope everyone
will enjoy this unique collection from MAD as much
as everyone who has had a hand in presenting it to
you has enjoyed bringing it to life here in Taiwan.
